From Chris Deacon
Generally I am not a fan of e-mails that get passed from person to person,
whether it is a joke, a funny picture, or an inspirational message. I got
one today that really hit home. One of the things about Christianity that
has always struck me is the reversals of what is expected. God shouldn't
love us, but does anyway. We have a savior who was sent to earth, only to
die, but in death, Christ had his greatest victories. A large portion of
our New Testament is written by a man who had an early career killing
Christians. Our faith is full of reversals and this really embodied it.
It was a video that scrolled these words:
This is the truth
if you turn things upside down
You can't hope for you life to change
I would be lying if I said that
you have a great future ahead
that you can recover from your past mistakes
that your life could be filled with joy
that you children could be safe and healthy
more than anything, you must know
human beings cannot accomplish these things
and I am convinced of this because I know you
all you are capable of is failure
you have made a complete mess of your life and
I refuse to believe under and circumstances that
you can turn things around in the coming years
you may think you life is bad now but
there's more to come
you have only one destiny
and whether you like it or not
this is what is real
I am the Lord you God.
Pretty bleak, huh? These are the words we deserve to hear from God as
sinful creatures. But God loves us in spite of our sin. Now read the
words from the bottom to the top. By reversing it, we see one of the
reversals that is essential to our faith. Even though we constantly
let God down, God loves and blesses us every day!
Faithfully,
Chris
