Wednesday After worship - Post 8

This week we take a look at two of Jesus's parables about the kingdom of heaven. In one, he compares the kingdom of heaven to someone finding a treasure buried in a field and then selling everything in order to go buy the field. In the second Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to one who finds a beautiful pearl then goes and buys that pearl. In both cases, the person finding the kingdom of heaven forsakes everything else in order to get the treasure. That's what discovering the kingdom of heaven is like. We forsake all other ideologies for the sake of living in the one that matters most to us.

In this week's sermon, I suggested that those of us who have known the kingdom of heaven in our lives don't so much find it for the first time again, but we do rediscover it and its value when we wander or walk away from it and then return to it. Like the prodigal, we may from time to time find ourselves living outside the kingdom only to return to it and rediscover the great joy, strength and peace it provides for us in life.

In this week's episode of "4th TV" I have not included any sketches on the scripture topic, but we will get to know the prophet Micah in "The Unqualified," share a little information on where Micah was from in "Somewhere Over There" and share a great video from Nick Wright about 3D printing. It's a lot of fun. I also mention a YouTube channel called "Col and Peep" created by Colin and Bill Hanna. I highly recommend it. Here's a link to their show if you'd like to watch it.

I hope you enjoy the post this week. Have a great remainder of the week and

Go 4th in Christ!

Fun Fact

Natural pearls are formed when an irritant gets in an oyster, mussel, or clam. As a defense, mollusks secrete a fluid to coat the irritant. As more and more layers of the fluid are secreted around the irritant, a beautiful pearl is formed. An apt (and oft-used) illustration for showing how obstacles that cause us pain can be used to make us all the more beautiful.
